#110 - The Only CAREER ADVICE You'll EVER Need...

Summary

Do you ever feel like you don't know what steps to take in your career? Whether to stay or to go? How to move forward? Whether to TAKE that promotion? You're not alone...

I definitely have to. As have a number of my coaching clients. In fact, I realized that, though many of my clients come to me hoping to overcome their burnout, they're really looking for career clarity. They're looking for support and help in making decisions regarding next steps in their career.

These are women who are highly successful, corporate and career-driven badasses, yet they're realizing that what has gotten them there will no longer give them what they want in life. That they want so much more than the paycheck, the prestige, the title...

So, in today's episode, that's what we're going to talk about. It's the only piece of CAREER ADVICE YOU NEED - to LOOK UP THE LADDER!

For show notes, head to coachellyn.com/podcast and, of course, if you have any questions or want to connect, head on over to @coachellyn on Instagram.

ACTION STEPS:

  • There’s only ONE ACTION STEP today…and that’s to look up the ladder! Looking up the ladder just means to look up at your superiors, higher-ups, bosses, etc. in your company, institution, or field and ask yourself if that’s the life you want.

    • Because I know that success is important to you. You want to be the best. But you wouldn’t be seeking out personal growth and support if you didn’t realize that what you’re doing is NO LONGER working. If you weren’t questioning the path you’re on…

    • So here are some questions to ask yourself as mentioned in the podcast:

      • Do you want the life of the people that are higher-up in the corporate/company ladder than you are?

      • Do you want all the pieces of that life - beyond the title, the paycheck, the prestige?

      • What do you see when you look up the ladder? Lives that you’re ENVIOUS of or people who are bitter, jaded, and overworked?

      • Do you see a life you want or a life you don’t when you look at your superiors?

      • Do you want to deal with the emotions you see them juggling or not?

      • So often, we’re making the decision to stay or to leave, so here are a few more questions to consider…

        • Do you want something that’s safe, comfortable, and convienient, like staying put?

        • Do you want to take a risk right now and jump into something new?

        • Are you willing to take the risk that the new position might not necessarily be a “better fit” for your lifestyle?

        • If you decide to change positions, these are more things to consider.

          • Don’t forget that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. You have to know that you’ll get a better situation and lifestyle in this new position, and you have to ask those questions and make those observations

          • Acknowledge that the situation might not be better, but if also might be a HUGE improvement!
