#13 - Do You Have Reasons or Excuses?

Get ready to be called out!!! Because damn did I feel called out, too, when I listened to this piece of audio. Similar to a couple of weeks back when I shared that audio clip from an IGTV I did, I’m breaking podcasting law and switching to a piece of audio that isn’t great, because the content is what is the most important part. So often, we fall victim to the fast, easy cheap attitude of our culture. But, that shit doesn’t work, especially for long-term effective results in our lives. We have to be willing to invest our time + money into the things we want, but so often we have excuses about why we can’t make those investments. And I mean excuses, not reasons. So, ask yourself, do you have reasons why you’re not getting what you want in life, reasons that are legitimate and out of your control? Or are your excuses holding you back? Because, if you let them, your excuses will make or break you.

STEP #1: REASONS OR EXCUSES?

Take a moment and ask yourself what is holding you back from getting what you want, and then I want you to ask yourself…is it a reason or an excuse?

A reason? That would be something like not being able to workout because you’re ill or injured, not because you don’t have the time or the money. Being ill and injured are reasons why you can’t. But not having time and money? That’s an excuse.

So, ask yourself….do you have reasons or excuses?

STEP #2: CHANGE YOUR MINDSET.

My clients will probably laugh when they read this because it’s something I say all the time. Ultimately, there’s never a perfect time to achieve our goals. Something will always come up that prevents us from achieving our goals. You just have to change your mindset around achieving your goals.

One of the best ways in which I’ve been able to change my mindset is, whenever I heard myself saying, “I don’t have time…” or “I don’t have the money…”, I replace those statements with “It’s not a priority.” And damn, is that a reality check.

I don’t have time to workout becomes working out and my health is not a priority.

I don’t have time to work on my side hustle becomes my side hustle and the things I think it will give me are not a priority.

I don’t have the money to travel becomes travel is not a priority.

And if something isn’t a priority for you…that’s fine. Maybe it isn’t! But, if that statement doesn’t sit well with you…if that statement leaves a pit in your stomach and doesn’t feel like it’s in line with your values, maybe it’s time your shifted your priorities around.

So that’s my step 2 for you. Replace your excuse with, “It’s not a priority” and see how that feels.

STEP #3: MAKE AN INVESTMENT.

Did the last step make you feel called out? Did changing your excuse to “it’s not a priority” feel pretty shitty? Well, then now it’s time to take action. Now, it’s time to make an investment.

We’ve already said that two of the biggest excuses we tend to make are “not enough time” and “not enough money” and that’s why this is my suggestion to you. If you’re ready to take action, to make an investment, my biggest tip for you is to make an investment of your time and/or your money. Because once you make that investment of something that you value and that you have that scarcity mindset about, you value it more you’ll inherently commit to it more.

So, that’s my final tip for you. If you’re ready to make something a priority…make an investment of your time or your money.
