You are a Badass...and you deserve to Feel like one!
I have never done something like this before. But, when you've read the same book 3 times in the course of a year, and twice in the last 4 months, I feel like that tells you something about how much it has impacted you .
I don't know what has kept me from sharing my thoughts on this book. Distraction? Simple lack of appreciation?
Well, whatever it is, know that I'm completely beyond that hindrance, because upon finishing reading this book again for the 3rd time this morning...I felt like I was on cloud nine.
What is "You are a Badass" about?
"You are a Badass" is a book by Jen Sincero. It is the mother of all personal development books in my opinion! And she doesn't even describe it as "personal development." In her opinion, it's a "how-to" book. In fact it's subtitle is: how to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life.
But I think it what sets this book apart is purely the fact that Sincero was a woo-hoo doubter. She was a critic of all this self-helpery in her past. And she is not afraid of sharing that in this book! I mean the paragraph in the introduction is:
I used to think quotes like this were a bunch of crap. I also didn't what the hell they were talking about. I mean, not that I cared. I was too cool. What little I knew about the self-help/spiritual world I found to be unforgivably cheesy: it reeked of desperation, rah-rah churchiness and unwanted hugs from unappealing strangers. And don't even get me started on how grouchy I used to be about God.
I mean - that just sums it up right there.
This is the self-help (I prefer personal development but let's roll with it here) for those people that hate self-help books.
Sincero gets it.
She gets that this shit isn't for all of us. But she also gets that we all need it, whether we think we do or not.
This book covers everything -- money, sex, self-worth, limiting beliefs, self sabotage, sabotaging friends and family, and how to address each and every one of these things that's keeping us from living our amazing lives and actually start.
Each chapter is bite-sized.
Each chapter has an explicit point narrated by a hilarious anecdote.
And - my favorite - each chapter has action steps.
My copy of this book has been dog-eared, highlighted, underlined, imaged, etc. I have used this book to punctuate my Instagram and Facebook accounts with relate-able daily inspiration because it's just that - relate-able.
I've even built an entire motivation monday assignment around a passage from this book for a challenge group!
Basically - this book has changed my life! I find myself returning to it all the time - obviously! And every time I read it I learn something new. It's like having a sarcastic, amazing life coach that gets that I'm not overtly spiritual or woo-hoo and still manages to put every single lesson into terms I understand. A coach who's every single anecdote makes me laugh and then two seconds later her commentary nearly brings me to tears.
This is a book that every single twenty-something, thirty-something, struggling female who is not sure of her place or how to move forward...they need to read this book! It's one of those books that if you don't get something out of, you're probably not putting in the work!
